Full day 8 hrs. departure fron Naples and return to Naples. You will be collected at the cruise’s pier by your private driver and vehicle and be taken for a full-day fascinating tour to the three main sites that testify the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD. You first stop will be made on Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in continental Europe , that has erupted about three dozen times. You car will stop half way up and then if you desire, you can choose to climb Mt, Vesuvius (approximately 45 minutes), and walk around the crater, situated 1281 meters above sea level. From the summit you'll have panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peering down into the depths of the crater, you may see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active volcano. Then the tour goes on visiting the well preserved ancient Roman city of Pompeii that was destroyed and buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A .D. The Herculaneum is waiting for you. The ancient residential Greek town with a wealthier population at the time of the eruption was covered as well by a torrent of mud rather than ash. The ruins are well preserved, and the site offers a variety of beautiful scenery and invaluable masterpieces. Excavations of Herculaneum began by accident in 1709 when some workers, digging a well, discovered a wall which was later found to be one of the stages of the ancient theatre. Later, there were many human skeletons uncovered at the ancient shoreline, suggesting that numerous inhabitants attempted to escape but perished when mountains collapsed and volcanic gases were released.
