Tenuta Montemagno Montemagno Asti

Their ancient walls tell of the history and traditions of the true Monferrato. The first documents that give testimony to its existence go back to the Napoleonic period. Then, as now, it was a place dedicated to the cultivation of the most prised vineyards of the area.

And like a good wine preserves its secrets in time, to then donate it to us, the farmhouse does the same and presents us it ancient splendours, also thanks to a consistent restoration work executed with the passion a craftsman. 

Its vines, cellar, rooms and lounges: nothing is left to chance. Every detail is cared for while respecting the art of hospitality and good living, to give the visitor a unique experience and unforgettable experience. All this is called Tenuta Montemagno Estate: a place created following simple but often elusive value: that of beauty. 

The Vineyards

The earth guards its treasure which is more precious that those of Asti. A wealth the Tenuta Montemagno Estate displays with the luxuriance of its cultivations, which extend up to the towns of Altavilla, Viarigi and Casorzo.

The Freisa, with its scent of strawberries and wild berries is blended in small percentages with the Grignolino, giving it softness and fruit. The Ruché, a very rare varietal that can be grown only in a restricted areal around Montemagno, is distinguished by its echo of violet to the nose, elegant and velvety to the palate. The Barbera, a classic Piedmont varietal, renowned for its potency and longevity and for the richness of red fruit, particularly cherry, achieves the best expression of it delicacy and power, in the clayey and lime-rich soil of Piedmont. It is produced in two versions: one that is more ready with maturing in steel vats, rich in fruit and favours, the other is enriched with spicy tones and vanilla after a year long wooden vat maturing. The Malvasia of Casorzo, a rare varietal that is found only in the Municipality of Casorzo, is an aromatic and unique grape, of its genre that is vinified when sweet, in the best vintages and even in passitos.The eye gets lost following the rows of some of the most ancient and famous grapes of Piedmont: The Grignolino, an ancient varietal of the Monferrato, is characterised by its soft, captivating colour and its floral notes (dry rose) and pomegranate accents;

The wines and distillates

The production of wine represents the primary activity of the Tenuta Montemagno Estate. The results of so much work have been quick to arrive. The DOC wines are born of the extraordinary passion of the owners and the precious work of the wine maker Gianfranco Cordero, whose advice has brought excellence to an already outstanding product. Today the management of the firm is placed in the care of Alberto Ravetti born in Monferrato which, together with his staff, will let you savour the atmosphere of these sites. With him, the guests will have the opportunity of tasting the best of this land. With him the guests can taste the best wine that this land has to offer.

Red wines

Monferrato in the land of excellence for red wines, that only here have a natural expression of strength and equilibrium. The Tenuta Montemagno Estate currently offers all the most important red wines of Monferrato. The organisation of the vineyard and cellar is aimed at expressing the best of the varieties, respecting the biological rhythms of maturation of each and making the wine taking care to respect the distinctive characteristics of each variety.

MYSTERIUM is a Barbera wine produced with the most ancient estate’s vineyards. After a belated grape harvest, the wine thinning takes place in oak casks. It looks like ruby red colour with purple and black reflections. It has a great and intense fragrance with light vanilla, cherry and wild berries notes. A long-lived wine with warm and robust flavor that improves with age. 

AUSTERUM is a Barbera that appears from vineyards planted into a clayey and little calcareous ground exposed to south, south-west sunlight. It looks like ruby red colour with purple and black reflections. It has an intense vinous fragrance with raspberry, currant and wild berries notes, soft flavor with red fruit light notes. 13% Vol. 

RUCHE' of Castagnole Monferrato is the homonymous vine, only present in this part of Piedmont. Rouche' is the ancient name of this old tradition wine. Dark red colour with purple and black reflections, it reveals intense rose, violet and red ripe fruit notes. Distinctly tannic and harmonious in the mouth. To serve at temperature of 18-20° C.

RUBER Latin word, takes its name from the red bright colour of this wine, 90% Grignolino and 10% Freisa. With intense violet scent and with typical dry and tannic flavor, this wine surprises for its persistent taste. To serve at temperature of 18°-20° C.

VIOLAE the queen of Piedmont’s grapes, the Barbera, successfully meets other Monferrato local vine types. This is a wine characterized by fresh and fruity properties that express at best the potentiality and versatility of Monferrato territory. A bright ruby red wine with cardinal’s tinges that presents raspberry and black cherry notes. To be served at 17-18° C. 13% Vol.

Withe wine

The best white wines recognize themselves for the delicacy of the fragrances and for the ageability. The Montemagno farm gives us these masterpieces thanks to the ideal climate of Monferrato and the unique characteristics of its lands. 

NYMPHAE is a wine characterized by its marked minerally quality and the intensity of olfactive notes of acacia and hawthorn flowers, pear and tomato leaves. Soft and assertive, this white wine is lingering and structured thanks to the ageing on yeasts for four months and to the presence of the piedmont’s local vine type Timorasso. To be served at 8-10 °C. 13% Vol.

MUSAE The zenith reached by Sauvignon grapes made into a wine of absolutely purity. This wine is characterised by its delicate aroma, emanating a marked and intensely fragrant minerality with tantalisingly olfactory hints of white flowers, acacia and may-blossom, of citrus fruit, pear, grapefruit and passion fruit. Smooth and decisive feel in your mouth, thanks to the refining of the yeasts lasting almost 6 months. Elegant and pleasantly fresh, it distinguishes itself for its surprising gustatory persistence. Should be served at a temperature of 10-12° C

Sweet wines

It is impossible that such a generous a land could not have reserved for us a welcome surprise: this is the case of the Malvasia of Casorzo grapes, a native variety only present in the town of Casorzo which gives rise to a sweet aromatic wine with great personality, unique because these grapes are only found here. 

NECTAR is a red raisin Malvasia wine produced with natural drying up on plant. Deep red colour, it gives off fruit notes like wild strawberry and jam of red fruits. Full and harmonious in the mouth, great structure and light notes of bilberry and fruit syrup. To serve at temperature of 12° C. 

DULCEM is a sweet wine-made red Malvasia, produced with our grapes from vineyards exposed to South, South-West. It reveals fragrance and delicate rose scent. To serve at temperature of 10-12° C.

ROSATUM is a sparkling red Malvasia wine, produced with our grapes and sweet wine-made, fresh and delicate with intense rose scent. To serve at temperature of 8-10° C.

Grappa

The presence of one of the most ancient and renown Italian distilleries in the territory, the Mazzetti d'Altavilla, has permitted us to express the grapes not with in wine but also with grappa, obtained by distilling our own marc. The Tenuta Montemagno Estate presents two types of single-variety grappa obtained from Malvasia and from Barbera, both characterised by an incredible finesse. 

ARGENTUM XLV is a grappa that contains 40% of alcohol and is obtained by dregs of our pressed red Malvasia grapes. Once distilled by ancient techniques, this soft grappa shows an intense rose scent giving a delicate sweet aromatic notes. 

AURATUM XLV is a grappa that contains 43% of alcohol and is obtained by the dregs of our pressed Barbera grapes. Once refined in the oak barrique for 12 months, this grappa shows an intense scent with liquorice notes. It’s a grappa with a dry and strong taste.
