The Ancient Rome Tour will allow you to discover the grandeur of the Roman Empire

The Roman Forum is located in a valley that is between the Palatine hill and the Capitoline hill. It originally was a marsh, but the Romans drained the area and turned it into a centre of political and social activity. The Forum was the marketplace of Rome and also the business district and civic centre. Much of the forum has been destroyed. Columns and stone blocks are all that remain of some temples. The arch of Titus and the Arch of Constantine still stand and are in good shape as well as the Trajan’s Column, a monument raised in Roman Emperor Trajan’s honour. It is located in Trajan’s Forum, built near the Quirinal Hill, north of the Roman Forum.

The Colosseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre, is located just east of the Roman Forum. Its construction started between 70 and 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus. Capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial games and public spectacles. Although in the 21st century it stays partially ruined due to damage caused by devastating earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum is an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and its breakthrough achievements in earthquake engineering.

The Capitoline Hill, between the Forum and the Campus Martius, is one of the seven hills of Rome. By the 16th century, Capitolinus had become Campidoglio in Italian. The Capitoline contains few ancient ground-level ruins, as they are almost entirely covered up by Medieval and Renaissance palaces, now housing the famous Capitoline Museums, that surround the trapezoidal square designed by Michelangelo.
